Pedal Power Parade '12

Well, another Boise Bike Week - the 10th, I believe - has come and gone. As always, I wish I'd been able to attend more events. I dunno about y'all, but this always one of the busiest times of year for me, what with putting the garden in, springtime chores, and numerous other warm-weather distractions.

I did make it to the grand finale - the Pedal Power Parade. Sadly, my ridin' buddy, granddaughter Mackenzie, was previously committed. (A picnic!) So I was a lone wolf. But, I got a few snaps of the festivities.

Wednesday's Ride of Silence had 33 cyclists turn out, which was about 2-3 times the number we've had the last few years. The presence of the wife and sister of Kevin Pavlis made the moment of silence at his "ghost bike" especially meaningful.

The route was longer and more heavily trafficked than in recent years so it helped that several cyclists acted as escorts, keeping intersections clear until everyone passed. We stopped at the Capitol building for a group photo.

The only incident was when a motorist in a white Mercedes SUV attempted to turn right from a left turn lane and when they could not (due to the presence of our group) laid on the horn.

Bob, I was thinking of you. I dearly wanted to go, as I enjoyed last year's... but May 16 is my son's birthday and that got the priority this year.

Mercedes SUV. Hahahaha! That (or Porsche SUV) is almost as ridiculous as a Cadillac pickup! "Look like an idiot at the ranch OR the country club!"
