As of today, I've accumulated 6000 bicycle miles in 2007. (Woo-hoo!)

It's my 6th 6000+ mile calendar year. Most recent was 2004. My best ever was 1996 - 6589 miles.

By contrast, I've maybe driven 1000 miles in the Missus' car this year, including a Boise to Stanley to Ketchum to Fairfield to Boise loop (400 or so miles).

congrats. I do not keep track of my mileage but don't worry about competition from me.

Wow, that's very impressive. Way to go, man! I just realized this morning that I hit 3500 miles for the year on my ride yesterday. It's a far cry from 6000, but by far the most I've ever done.

Anyway, well done. And may next year be another great year of riding.

Thanks for the kind sentiments, my friends.

The bike-computer is a double-edged sword.

It's a lame reason for riding, compared with the far more tangible reasons, like stress relief, exercise, $ savings, the environment, etc. (When I think about riding just to watch the odometer spin... it seems pretty silly.)

But it has provided some incentive over the years to go another mile or two. (I s'pose it's on the same level as $50/month health club dues, which are incentive for some folks to visit the health club regularly.)

I've just hit ~350 since I started in March. Part of the "problem" was a short 5 mile round trip commute for most of the year. Hard to rack up many miles with that sort of distance. But having changed jobs to a downtown boise office building, I now have the opportunity for 20+ mile commutes (round trip). The only real variable is my ability to stave off laziness and keep up the riding. :-)
