Today I rolled over 4 digits on the odometer - 1000 miles in 2008.
It was a fantastic day - the first 60-degree day in Boise, with filtered sunlight and a 12mph breeze from the southeast.
I'm nothing if not consistent: in 2007 I hit that milestone on March 12, in 2006 on March 11, in 2005 on March 6, in 2004 on March 14, in 2003 on March 12. That's actually very odd.
I also got my first flat tire of the year today. Which is truly extraordinary - I checked my records and my last flat tire was on October 9, almost 2400 miles ago! WOW! (I've been riding on cheap Nashbar "comfort" tires - the extra width and tread obviously help.)

I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen a screed yet about the council's (in)decision in Garden City. maybe you're saving up your energy for a proper gale-force post; or perhaps you've concluded that those morons aren't worth the bluster. Anyone in the mood to field a panel of green candidates for Garden City's political leadership?
Hey, extrovertonage... yeah, I saw on the Statesman website by 9:30 or so that the GC Council folks had (totally expectedly) refused to budge.
I must confess, that's somewhat of a "peripheral" issue for me.
2 weeks earlier, the GC honchos made a big deal of the fact that many people showed up to testify in favor of walking-path only, while only a few showed up to testify for cyclists. And that tends to be my observation, too.
Us bike riders, out of necessity, are very adaptable. (Particularly those who are comfortable sharing the roads.) If the path is closed... we either go around the obstacle and ride on... or find an alternate route. Many issues that are a big deal for the motoring public don't affect us nearly so much. So we tend to not get involved.
I'm continuing to observe from a distance - anxiously waiting to see what Gary and his comrades will take, as their next course of action. (I'd LOVE to support the 3/15 "show of force" but I'll not be available, unfortunately.)
Congrats on the mileage. I don't have even 200 miles yet. I had a slow start to the year.
Not surprised by GC, or by the article in Sunday's paper about their interpretation of the whole land transfer from the state. I wish the state would sue them again, but someone else would say that it's a waste of taxpayer money...
Wow, congrats on hitting 1000 miles for the year. It sure is early for that ... I haven't hit 500 yet. Good work.
